In Platte County, we believe in preparing children for the 21st century by giving them the skills necessary to succeed today and in the future. Small class sizes in all of our schools help teachers address students’ needs. Area educators focus on each individual reaching their potential by offering a vast amount of resources to students and families in a safe, drug-free environment. An online family network allows parents to get vital information on activities throughout the district. Platte County schools offer students a personalized education and continual assessments to guide and develop that education. Whether it is through extra-curricular activities, or organized sports teams such as basketball, football, track, volleyball or wrestling, the athletic programs in Platte County offer many recreational possibilities. Drama, forensics, journalism and other student clubs offer students a wide array of after school activities. Platte County takes great pride in its two school districts.
Platte County School District #1
In addition to regular kindergarten through second grade classes, with low teacher/student ratios, Libbey Elementary offers Special Education courses, ESL, counseling, group therapy, and speech pathology. The philosophy of the school is to instill a love for learning, and to prepare and challenge students to become active learners.
West Elementary focuses on providing a safe place for student learning and helps to prepare students for the transition to middle school. They offer courses for third-grade to fifth-grade, along with Special Education, and ESL classes.
Wheatland Middle School (WMS) is a comprehensive, student-oriented school, focusing on teaching the whole child. The school promotes partnerships between staff, students, and the community. WMS serves students in the sixth through eighth grades, encouraging a rich learning environment both inside and outside of the classroom. Students have the opportunity to take math, language arts, PE, social studies and science, as well as courses in art, music, computers, life skills, industrial arts and health. Additional classroom options include band, choir, Hispanic culture, study skills, engineering, weight lifting and much more.
Wheatland High School (WHS) is committed to the success of every student by preparing them for a future career path. The staff works together in a positive learning environment. There is continual encouragement to participate fully in academic and extra-curricular activities.
Glendo High School also develops students skills by advancing their training and education. There is an important focus on college-bound students and vocational opportunities.
Chugwater Schools concentrate on a different theme each year to promote a positive environment for learning and commitment. The classrooms are for kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school focuses on community support, giving residents an avenue to express their concerns and ideas for the school. There is a focus on developing a strong curriculum to make great strides in the needs of students. Chugwater focuses on a coordinated health plan to help students stay healthy and learn better and faster.

Platte County School District #2
Guernsey-Sunrise Elementary School provides students with opportunities to participate in academics, extra-curricular activities, and technology. There is a strong stress on the core curriculum and students are given the tools to grow as well as the assistance of technology. Social development is an important part of each student’s daily activities.
Guernsey-Sunrise Jr. and Sr. High School is located in a rural area of southeastern Wyoming on the Oregon Trail. There are approximately 140 students in grades 7-12. The school has developed a cross-curriculum assessment program and pays special attention to training teachers and staff to work towards its goals. All graduates participate in a senior exit interview prior to graduation to demonstrate their knowledge and skills for graduation and life beyond.

Platte County is literally surrounded by higher educational institutes including three community colleges (Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington to the east, Central Wyoming College in Casper, Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne to the south) and the University of Wyoming in Laramie to the west—all within an hour and a half or less from our communities.
